Protective Clothing Meets Pesticide Standard – EN ISO 27065

The use of pesticides has been steadily increasing, providing essential protection for crops against insects, weeds, diseases, and food scarcity. However, pesticides also pose various hazards to human health and the environment. In order to minimize pesticide exposure and poisoning risks, it is important to dress appropriately when handling pesticides.

In recognition of the significance of protecting operators handling plant protection products, an ISO standard is developed. The standard, EN ISO 27065 Protective clothing – Performance requirements for protective clothing worn by operators applying pesticides and for re-entry workers, establishes a comprehensive framework to ensure the effectiveness of protective clothing.

Standard EN ISO 27065 consists of three levels, C1, C2 and C3, whereby C3 is the highest protection level.

Level C1:  It can be used as the base protective clothing with additional items worn when the potential risk is relatively higher.

Level C2:  The whole-body protective clothing shall pass low-level spray test. It can be used as the base protective clothing with additional items worn when the potential risk is relatively higher.

Level C3:  The whole-body protective clothing shall pass a high-level spray test. A Level C3 item is suitable for use with concentrated as well as diluted pesticide formulations.

When selecting personal protective clothing for yourself or your employees who are applying pesticides, the label of EN ISO 27065 should be considered.
